Once the largest gunpowder works in Britain, Gunpowder Mill required extensive decontamination operation before it was rendered suitable for alternative use.
This resulted in an usual topography with substantial depressions appearing across the landscape, without apparent cause.
Decontamination depressions were incorporated into the formal and informal landscape.
Much of the wilderness was retained, untouched.
Treatment of the landscape close to the buildings was more formal where the large scale of the buildings created generous plots for varied and vibrant ornamental planting. Generous paths and walkways guide people through thelandscape.
